SUMMARY:General Meeting
DESCRIPTION:5:30 pm Drinks and mingling\n6:00 pm Dinner and Program begins\nNo charge for members! Non-members welcome – cost $35. Dinner is included \nJoin us for our spring General Meeting. Arrive at 5.30 for mingling\, at 6.15 dinner & presentations will begin. Presentations will be focused on advocacy\, including an update from Ellen Bildsten AIA on ADUs and a lecture from Das Williams. Come hear County Supervisor Das Williams discuss disaster recovery reponse in his lecture Public Service During Disaster. Read more about the presentation below. \nPresentation: \nBeyond the day to day functions governments provide\, which are often overlooked\, it is also government’s responsibility to prepare and respond to disasters as well as to oversee and organize recovery after the fact. Every level of government has their role but in serving in elected office at both the state and local level\, I can tell you that local government is the closest to it and becomes the main point of contact for state and federal agencies. Serving as an elected official during a disaster is especially difficult because you are the most visible representative for those who are responding and receive most of the questions and comments but it is the people behind the scenes doing all the work. It’s my job to figure out how to inform my constituents and keep them calm while staying out of the way so the professionals can do their job. The Thomas Fire and subsequent debris flow has been the most challenging experience of my career but I’m extremely proud of how our County has responded and the work that has been put into it.
