SUMMARY:ArchitecTours 2018: Submissions for Rediscover Downtown
DESCRIPTION:Rediscover Downtown Santa Barbara:\nImagine How You Can Live\, Work & Play \nRegister Your Project Today\nRegistration Closes Friday April 13th! \nThere have been many conversations over the last few years about the changing face of Downtown Santa Barbara and how best to bring back its economic vitality\, while making it more vibrant\, more livable\, and more walkable. National trends indicate that a growing sector of our population – and not just Millennials – have a strong desire to set aside their cars to live and work in downtown environments. New\, higher density housing projects are starting to appear in downtown Santa Barbara– with some more affordable than others. In response to changes in traditional shopping patterns\, what have been our larger\, commercial buildings may be seeing a substantial change in use. Another factor changing the look and feel of what has traditionally been Santa Barbara’s urban core is competition with the thriving Funk Zone. This year’s 10th Anniversary ArchitecTours wants to share some of the exciting things that are happening in Downtown Santa Barbara in response to these issues. \nAIA Santa Barbara seeks AIA Member projects that reflect these concepts. This year’s tour will encourage attendees to “Rediscover Downtown Santa Barbara: Imagine How You Can Live\, Work & Play.” Please submit a project that showcases the best of downtown living. Our vision is to make this a walking tour – allowing participants to get out of their cars and explore. As a result\, we are looking for projects that are walkable within and near the downtown area. Bring us your hidden gems! We look forward to exploring the wide range of opportunities this theme inspires. \nFeatured architects must be involved in shaping the tour as a requirement for inclusion and a representative of your company must participate in monthly planning meetings leading up to the actual tour on October 6th. Entrants are encouraged to express and celebrate the purpose their submitted project plays in the community on the day of the tour. This event also provides the projects’ contractors\, material suppliers\, and craftspeople an opportunity to demonstrate products\, quality workmanship\, and installations during the tour. In addition\, we ask project architects to secure\, at a minimum\, two “site sponsors” to help tell the story behind their project as well as help raise funds to offset the cost of ArchitecTours. \nPLEASE FILL OUT THE REGISTRATION FORM BELOW AND EMAIL TO TARARIZZI@AIASB.COM TO FINISH THE REGISTRATION PROCESS\nFor more information and to submit your completed project for consideration\, see the instructions on the attached registration form. AIA Santa Barbara looks forward to sharing your best projects with the public! \nProject applications are due Friday\, April 13th. Only complete applications received by 5 PM on April 13th will be considered.\n \nThank you in advance for your participation.
