Presented by In Balance Green Consulting, Sponsored through 3C-REN.

Overview

This is a 4-part lunch-time series focused on the 2019 Title 24 Energy Code and cost-effective, high-performance construction. Each 1-hour event will include time for Q&A, a brief update on 3C-REN and a schedule of upcoming training. Lunch included.

4-Part Series

  1. September 23, 2019 @ Cabrillo rec Center
  • All Electric ZNE – Heat pumps and electric appliances for residential and small commercial

Construction in California is moving toward cost-effective, all-electric systems, without natural gas. We’ll discuss the benefits and potential barriers to the integration of all all-electric systems. Earns 1 LU/ HSW. Learning objectives:

  • Understand the benefits of all-electric systems and be able to communicate effectively with clients.
  • Learn the parts, pieces, and functions of heat pumps and consider options for distribution and locating equipment
  • Understand the performance and requirements of heat pump water heaters
  • Review other electric appliances including dryers and cooktops.
  1. October 29, 2019 Location TBD
  • Non-Residential Envelope and Renewable Energy for Title 24 2019

The 2019 update of Title 24 for non-residential construction is around the corner, and this module (Part 1 of 2) addresses envelope and renewable energy. We will highlight major code changes, offer cost-effective details on wall, roof and windows assemblies and provide guidelines for locating and sizing your project’s PV system. Earns 1 LU/ HSW. Learning objectives:

  • Understand the major changes in the Non-residential Title 24 Building Energy Efficiency Standards 2019 (taking effect January 1, 2020).
  • Know what envelope and glazing assemblies will serve as the new “baseline” for energy performance.
  • Identify cost-effective strategies to design, detail and construct high-performance, code-compliant buildings
  • Understand considerations for locating and sizing renewable energy systems
  1. November 12, 2019 Location TBD
  • Residential Retrofits – 2019 Title 24 and best practices for high performance

Working through specific examples, we’ll help project teams navigate Title 24 2019 Energy Standards and identify strategies that have the highest impact for improving energy efficiency, comfort and indoor healthy environments in retrofits. Earns 1 LU/ HSW. Learning objectives:

  • Understand the major changes in the Residential Title 24 Building Energy Efficiency Standards 2019 (taking effect January 1, 2020).
  • Review the benefits and requirements of HERS measures and field verification
  • Identify best practices and highest impacts for retrofits
  • Discuss barriers and opportunities in managing a success high-performance retrofit.
  1. January 2020, Location TBD
  • Commissioning for Non-Residential Projects

Building commissioning (Cx) is a verification process to ensure non-residential buildings perform and operate as intended, and it’s required for any project over 10,000 SF. Rather than seeing Cx as one more burden, we’ll talk about efficiently meeting the requirements and enjoying the short-term and long-term benefits. Earns 1 LU/ HSW. Learning objectives:

  • Understand commissioning in Title 24 Energy Code and CAL Green
  • Review Cx Documents and schedule
  • Be able to communicate the benefits of the Cx process, including stories from the field
  • Understand additional options including enhanced commissioning, envelope commissioning, and monitoring
