About the Awards
At this year’s Design Awards Gala, we will be announcing the recipients of AIA Santa Barbara’s Design Awards 2024! The purpose of the Design Awards is to recognize and honor excellence in architecture within our local built environment and by AIA Santa Barbara architects beyond our region. The AIA Santa Barbara Design Awards draws attention to the extraordinary legacy of great architecture in Santa Barbara and California, and the value of well-designed architecture to every member of our community.

This is a unique opportunity for your company to have a presence in the architectural community of Santa Barbara. We have submissions from licensed architects in the Santa Barbara area, as well as from architects outside Santa Barbara if their project was located in Santa Barbara County. Honor, Merit, and Honorable Mentions may be recognized in the following categories: Santa Barbara Heritage (Residential and Commercial Projects;) Commercial Buildings; Commercial Interiors; Conservation: Historic Preservation, Restoration, Rehabilitation or Reconstruction; Small Projects: Single Family Residential Additions, Remodels or Accessory Dwelling Units (ADU’s;) Single Family Residential; and Proposed/Unbuilt Projects.

Jurors
Our jurors this year are:

Patti Baker, AIA is talented design and project leader with 30 years in practice. Patti joined Backen & Backen Architects as Director in 2019 to support the firm’s evolution and growth in Southern California while providing a full-time presence to their clients, projects, and the Southern California team.

Erik K. Evens is Principal of EVENS ARCHITECTS, KAA Design Group. In 2013, he established Evens Architects, an independent design studio operating under the aegis of KAA Design and focused exclusively on traditional residential design.

Ted Flato, FAIA Since founding Lake|Flato with David Lake in 1984, Ted Flato has received a reputation for his straight-forward regional designs that leverage each unique site and connect people to the natural environment. By employing sustainable strategies in a wide variety of building types and scales, Ted seeks to conserve energy and natural resources while creating healthy built environments.

Patti is scheduled to attend the Gala and present the awards!

People may choose to mask at any time. People with symptoms, a positive test, or exposure to someone with COVID-19 should opt out of attending.

Schedule/ Dress code

Arrive at 5:30 pm for mingling and a no host bar.
Dinner and program will start around 6:15 pm. Dress comfortably – business casual.
