The Archives are open by appointment only
The Architectural Archives holds residential permit plan sets for the unincorporated areas of Santa Barbara county (excluding those in the city limits of: Carpinteria, Santa Barbara, Goleta, Lompoc, Santa Maria, Solvang, and Guadalupe).
Effective, January 1, 2025, a $50 non-refundable search fee will be required with all plan request inquiries. Should the requestor decide to move forward with duplication of documents, this search fee can be applied to the Archive Use Fee of $315 for single-family residential and $420 for multi-unit residential.
No photography or tracing of Archive materials is allowed.
After viewing and confirmation of the documents desired, a formal contract for duplication will be executed along with the Archive Use Fee balance of $265 for single-family residential and $370 for multi-unit residential (includes $50 non-refundable search fee). Cash or check only.
If the request does not come from the owner, an Agent of Authorization document must be signed and submitted.

Submit each Plan Request Inquiry separately by e-mail to archives@aiasb.com for a preliminary search.
Include:
- Applicant’s Name (are you the Owner/Architect or Agent?)
- Telephone number
- Address of parcel
- Assessor’s Parcel Number (APN)
- Building Permit Number (BPN)
- Tract Name or Tract Number
- $50 non-refundable search fee
Within one week of receiving a request, you will be contacted by phone or email to arrange a viewing appointment time.

If driving south on 101: take the Turnpike exit to Calle Real, turn right on Calle Real, left on Camino Del Remedio, and then into the third driveway on the left in the “County Health Care” buildings. The Archives is on your right (1 o’clock) as you enter, but please turn left after entering to park in the visitor parking area.
If driving north on 101: take the El Sueno exit, turn left onto Calle Real, right onto Camino Del Remedio, and take the third driveway on the left in the “County Health Care” buildings. The Archives is on your right as you enter, but please turn left after entering to park in the visitor parking area.
